November has just flown by at warp speed. If it were possible, I’d ask Scotty to beam me back! Perhaps he has and I don’t know it – yesterday it was well into the 60’s here with the same today. This weather does not seem at all Novemberish!
But, December is knocking at the door and despite my gift knitting through the year, I always have a few last-minute things that seem like a good idea to try to cast on to get finished for Christmas gifting.
I finished slippers for Steve’s mom – I knit them with Lamb’s Pride Worsted and at a tighter gauge than the pattern calls for. I really love the fabric I got and I think these will be a sturdy, long-wearing slipper! All that is left to do is seam up the slipper backs and wash them. I have a few more skeins of the Lamb’s Pride and I think I will make a couple more pairs to send out with holiday packages.
I am anticipating some Project Peace knitting starting tomorrow – one very good thing about the arrival of December! I am all ready to cast on tomorrow! I will be using the knitting time to do some meditation for the season.
My reading slowed down over the holiday weekend, but I finished The Underground Railroad today. The narration is incredibly wonderful on this audiobook and the story is so compelling and powerful and it will be a story that will stay with me a long time. I am struck by how things have not changed in some aspects and that is incredibly sad. I give this book 5 stars and if you have not read it, I highly recommend it.
I have about 100 pages left of Burial Rites – and I am glad I stayed with this book – Agnes has tucked herself into my heart and I am holding out hope that things take a good turn for her.
Up next in my reading, Michael Chabon’s The Mysteries of Pittsburgh. This was an Overdrive “recommendation” – which I look forward to each week!
I better get back to my holiday knitting, are you doing any gift knitting this year?
Joining up with Ginny’s Yarn Along as usual today.
Love your Peace Project yarn; that is a beautiful, squishy green! I’ve dithered about what yarn to use, whether to try an I-cord cast on, whether to add applied I-cord later, and generally overthinking instead of knitting. It’s time for me to just cast on and get knitting!
get out of my head…!!!!! I just ordered Mysteries of Pittsburgh to take with me on our trip. OK. So we’re both from the Steel City…..but to pick this first book of Chabon’s….???? Bizarre! (I also order his newest one..I think. I’ve had a rather heavy hand on the amazon ‘buy’ button lately!
The yarn looks so so beautiful – the thread’s texture and the mix of colors are so inspiring!
My yarn’s waiting on the table for the Peace Project; your cowl is going to be lovely.
I’ve a thousand other things floating around my mind – lotsa empty caverns there – so I guess I’d better make a list…
Cheers~
you are quite the busy little knitter these days! I am knitting the fair isle hat (one done two to go) and I want to knit a cowl, a wurm hat and maybe a pair of socks all before Christmas…wish me luck!
Love your beautiful handspun yarn. May your knitting be peaceful and beautiful. Have you seen the 100 Notable Books from the NY Times? It’s a great list and I want to work my way through. No gift knitting here. I’m a selfish (and too slow) knitter.
I’ve seen these slippers before (at Melody’s bmandarines?) and like them so much – thank you for reminding me, I really have to knit them myself 😉
And your yarn looks stunning – I love yarn that is somewhat loose (woolen spun) and has a heathered look about it colourwise. Curious how this will turn out once you’ve knit it. Please keep us posted 🙂
No gift knitting here either. Selfish, slow and avoiding deadlines at all cost! I did finally break down and get the Project Peace pattern today. I’ll be stash diving tonight. Congrats on a wonderful NaBloPoMo!
I am. I have socks for Rudi, using yarn he picked out that I hate the feel of. I have to finish the toe of the first sock and am nearly to the heel flap on the second.
I am the shawl my mom bought the pattern and yarn for that I didn’t finish last year. I stopped because I wasn’t sure I had enough yarn (mind you, that point is still two skeins away), but I’m determined to finish and will just switch to something else for the bind off if need be.
I want to make my dad a hat. The yarn is wound and in a baggie with needles that may or may not be right for it.
There are a few other projects I’d like to get done (including something for my mother-in-law), but those three are the major ones.
I love the yarn you’re using for Project Peace – your handspun, right? the texture is gorgeous and the color… stunning! I have one knitted gift planned; yarn bought, pattern chosen and hopefully I’ll find a few quiet hours over the next week or so to start it. It was supposed to be a November birthday gift, so I’m really feeling any Christmas pressure about it 🙂
That green yarn is lovely. Look forward to seeing it knit up. Enjoy!
I’m still dithering about the yarn for Project Peace.
Thanks for the book recommendations–I will definitely get my hands on them.
No gift knitting for me. I will be starting Project Peace, hopefully today. And I’ve had Underground Railroad on my to-read list forever but stuff from Overdrive keeps coming in and taking precedence.I never really got into Burial Rites, glad to hear you enjoyed it, though.
No gift knitting for me this year . . . I just finished Underground Railroad (but you already know that), and I agree completely with your assessment. I also love Michael Chabon — but have never read The Mysteries of Pittsburgh. Think I need to add that one to my reading list . . .
OK… off to snag Underground Railroad RIGHT NOW!! I’m doing a little bit of gift knitting this year — mostly for the grands. Maybe I’ll give away a pair of Squad Mitts…
