This week’s Think Write Thursday topic is to write about 3 good things that happened this week. We all know that focus on the GOOD is GOOD for us so let’s do it!
Happiness radiates like the fragrance from a flower and draws all good things towards you. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
This might be the perfect topic for me, Carole made this suggestion and it was like she knew this would be a struggle for me – and really, that is a very good thing.
Okay, maybe in theory…however, reality makes this a challenge for me. Contrary to what you might think, I am not Suzie Sunshine every day. I know, right? But, that is the truth.
So, that quote and this post are going to be my reminder that good things and happiness go hand in hand.
I am going to take a little license and expand “this week” to include last week as well.
One very good (and utterly selfish thing, I admit) was that Steve had a work function last week and he was gone Thursday through Saturday. I know – completely selfish, but what can I say – sometimes a break is a very good thing! This allowed me to stay up as late as I wanted and Sherman slept in bed with me. Oh, and there might have been some marathon knitting time going on and listening to audio-books sans headphones and watching subtitled shows on Netflix. I was ready for him to come home late Saturday afternoon, even if he complained about the knitting and wondered what the heck I was watching! LOL
The second good thing was the nights of rain we have gotten, nice soaking rains. Good sleeping rains.
The third thing is something that I started at the beginning of the month. I was fortunate to get into The Balanced Life Sisterhood. To start, it was so hard and holy cow am I out of shape, but I have been persevering every single day and this week ::even though the workouts are still so hard:: I could do more repetitions and more things than I could the week before! This exercise is a very good thing! I am excited to do it! I feel so accomplished when I am done! AND…this is good for my mind as well!
Good things sometimes are selfish, sometimes replenishing, and sometimes are hard work. But, they do create happiness!
If you want to see more good things, you will find them here. And, if you want to join Carole and me on Think Write Thursdays, you can sign up here.
I hear you sister! That downer stuff is a trap that’s hard to get away from and it’s the main reason I’m afraid of retirement. More exercise is something I’m looking forward to as I have time away from a desk. Water exercise, walking, and maybe even a few weights, are on my list of things to do. Good work keeping up with your Sisterhood!!
I think I know just how you feel when reality intrudes and you can’t be Suzie Sunshine every day, but I also think it’s better to be honest and recognize and deal with the negative. Even when it’s a struggle, it’s good to look for the good to balance out the rest. I don’t think appreciating time alone is selfish (as I’m looking forward to several weeks in Sept. to do the same things you did)! Time alone is another good balance to time together. I love your last sentence and keep up with all the good (even if it’s hard).
How have I not heard of The Balanced Life Sisterhood?!?!? That sounds like something that I need!!!
I have to agree that good things ARE selfish. But, in a way that makes YOU a better person. And being a better person, isn’t that what it’s all about???
Even if you are spending every moment doing some marathon knitting!!! That’s my dream… 🙂
I love good things lists. Having some ME time is not selfish in my book. It is restorative. I do similar things when I am home along.
3 good things:
*Got two new chair cushions for the porch. Long overdue. On sale
*Nearing the shawl end and still really enjoying it
*maintaining my weight , although it is a constant effort.
NO ONE can be Suzie Sunshine all the time but I do think it helps to focus on the good. I’m glad you could find good things to share and I hope that you have lots of sunshine in the days ahead!
When I’m around people who are constantly happy and upbeat, frankly I start to question their sanity! That said, you are right that it is a good exercise to focus on good things, however small, in our lives, most especially when we are feeling generally down and disheartened.
Agreeing, it seems, with everyone else. Life isn’t 100% happy all the time. I think some of those “difficult” times make you appreciate the “good” times all the more. And, in my book,, “me time” is definitely not selfish – it’s a necessity (for my sanity and those around me as well). I remember years ago being excited when my husband was leaving town for a long weekend and a co-worker asked me what I was going to do. I said enjoy myself – stitch, knit, read, eat what I want, etc. Her response was that she couldn’t do that because she was bored when by herself! How sad…
I love your honesty. I feel guilty when I’m not Suzy Sunshine.
Oh I don’t feel bad one bit that my good things are all selfish 🙂 and I’m so excited you joined TBL! I did the little ball workout yesterday and I’m still sore (and I’m over 4 months in … not sure if that’s good news or bad news about what you can expect).
One reason I began MSQT (morning solitude quiet time) was to have ME Time! That was over 20 years ago and doesn’t matter what time I have to leave the house. I get up early enough to give *me* that alone time! To call up a tired metaphor: when the oxygen mask drops on a plane flight, you put your mask on first and then, help the next guy, the child, etc…carry on and always be good to you!
Cheers~
When my husband is out of town, my house stays cleaner and I don’t cook at all, it’s kind of nice. I love that you are finding the lovely 🙂
