This week’s Think Write Thursday prompt is to write about a tree house hideaway.
I am not sure if any of you have seen any of Treehouse Masters on Animal Planet, but I have watched occasionally. Pete Nelson is a creative soul who brings to life a person’s dream tree house.
And, really – who did not dream of a tree house when they were a kid? I sure did! There was a sassafras grove in the woods behind the house where we lived and my sister and I spent hundreds of hours there. I wished for a tree house in that very spot! It would have been perfect!
However, if I was going to have Pete Nelson’s team build me a tree house today – I want it to be modeled on those childhood dreams but with a modern amenity reality that really would make it an oasis.
I know that space would be at a premium in a tree house, so an annex for crafting would be necessary – I mean I am not going to my tree house to get away from the things that relax me most!
But, in the main house, I want there to be windows… so many windows! I want to see the view that the birds and the squirrels see! And, it would need a small kitchen because happy hour and snacks in the tree tops might be the best thing ever.
A loft with more windows and a bed would make it the perfect ‘camp out’ place, don’t you think? Oh… and it would need a bathroom, thank you very much!
A hideaway in the trees might be the best place in the world to spend time!
What about you? Would you like a tree house?
You can see what others have to say about their hideaway in the trees here. If you would like to join Carole and me in these Think Write Thursday journeys, we would love to have you join us! You can sign up here!
Your dream tree house sounds lovely. My husband always watches Tree House Masters and I’ve seen a number of them – amazing spaces created!
We also had a sassafras grove in our woods, and that does sound like the perfect place for a tree house. I’m imagining the gentle rustle of those mitten-shaped leaves and the lovely feeling of peacefulness.
I love that photo. and your ideas for modern amenities (like a bathroom) and simple necessities (like a kitchen and a crafting annex). I hope you’ll have plenty of room for visitors, too – I can’t wait to join you!
Yes, yes and yes! I would take a treehouse like you described also!! 🙂 And I think I wouldn’t mind if you could glimpse the ocean in the distance.
Some of those tree houses are really incredible — they’re full-on houses that just happen to be in trees, with heat and indoor plumbing and everything! That might be a bit much for me, but I’d love a little hideaway of a tree house. For a while I was joking with my husband that we should get one of those tiny houses and plop it in our yard (which is pretty tiny, too) to be my crafting studio. I could store all my yarn and supplies there so they wouldn’t take up space in the house — and he couldn’t see the size of my stash!
I’ll come hang out with you in your tree house any time!
Several years ago I ran across a book in the bookstore and spent quite a bit of time looking through it. I almost bought it as the incredible houses took over my imagination. My house would have a beautiful easy chair, an heirloom rug, and an endless supply of books (and tea).
I would need far too many amenities for it to be a tree house. 😉
I always, always wished for a treehouse when I was a little girl! Oh, the adventures I’d have had. . .
We had an ancient lilac in the front yard of the house where I lived until I was ten. The trunks were bare up to about five or six feet and created a wonderful house. There was a gap for the door, a lateral branch for a shelf, and the fence made the back wall. I played there for hours (years!).
The asparagus bed was another favorite. After July 4th my mother no longer cut it to eat, o it grew TALL. I could crawl in among the stalks with my dolls and play house.
