This week the topic for Think Write Thursday is to tell us what your mirror would say if it could talk.
Oh, boy…
Really? Can I just say for starters that I am unbelievably glad that my mirror cannot talk! Exceedingly glad – and then some! Ha!
However, perhaps if it could talk it might say things like this (in no particular order)
- Yes, your hair looks fine and does not need more hairspray. Really.
- Please do not forget the under-eye cover up – those dark circles and bag are not your friends!
- You know, if I were a bit bigger you might not need that magnifying mirror… okay maybe not.
- Two words – grey roots! You better get on that yesterday, girl!
- Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!! And, puh-leeze!! Use the SPF 30 stuff!
Do you hear the sarcasm, because I sure can! In actuality this was a very challenging topic for me – one that is totally outside my comfort zone. I am not comfortable talking about myself in a positive way – I can talk about things I do, or ideas, or beliefs without any hesitation. But, when it gets down to that face in the mirror – it is an entirely different story.
Rather, here is what I see when I look at this picture – a middle-aged woman who will stand up for what is right and help you if you have a problem. I am a procrastinator and a dreamer and I do not at all feel like I am 57, but I sure as heck am glad I am not 75 (yet) or 25 (again). I am content with who I am inside even if I am uncomfortable talking about the outside.
A challenging journey that is, I hope, far from completion.
Thank you for selecting such a thought provoking topic this week Carole. And, I really mean that!

OK, you **totally** do NOT look 57. Just sayin’. The rest of those things:You always champion what is right, and your help is always valuable! (Even if it isn’t what I want to hear… 😉 )
That’s a beautiful face looking back at you! And #5…a never ending battle! xo
Great post Kat – and you do look marvelous!! Isn’t it so nice to be content with who we are (inside and out)? Something I never was in my 20’s or 30’s…took several more decades for that to happen!!
Mirrors only see the surface . . . it’s what’s inside that counts most! Beautiful post; beautiful face; beautiful inside and out! XO
You look wonderful, Kat, and I also know that you are just as wonderful inside! The mirror may not reflect things you’re completely comfortable with, but I see a beautiful woman, lovely writer, spinner, knitter, friend, who will absolutely stand up for what is right, is full of empathy, and always willing to help.
So many truths have already been commented. I will just add that your mirror should also tell you you have beautiful eyes!
I think you are beautiful, inside and out. And your mirror needs to be nicer!
We are all beautiful (inside and out, yes), but we are all beautiful just the way we are. Too often we think we can only be pretty if we have on makeup or look “Hollywood”. Accepting our looks as they are, a beauty that not only shines through but that is REAL, that is our challenge! We are real and we are amazing.
At 68, I’ve decided to embrace my appearance in the mirror. Yes, I have my creams and hair touch ups but they will only do so much. I love to smile at everyone just to brighten there day so unfortunately there will be wrinkles! Each one for someone who I hope thought better of the world we live in. Your inner and outer beauty shines in that picture!
You sure don’t look 57, that’s for sure!
I’m only in my mid-30s, but I’m already going gray (genetics are strong — my grandmother was completely gray in her 20s). It doesn’t bother me, but my mother keeps pushing me to dye my hair. A little more than a year ago, I finally consented to some highlights, mainly because I had two big weddings to go to and it seemed like fun to get my hair done. And you know what? I hated it. It didn’t look like me, and moreover it looked like I was trying to hide the real me. I’m happy to have the grays back. Now what you see is what you get.
Hello, Kat! I think this might be the first time I’ve seen your face and what struck me initially was your eyes… I can tell they really *see*. and then those pretty lips .. with just a hint of color. I must admit I was grateful to have another topic for today – a little shy and not just a little intimidated by y’all!
This is a wonderful picture of you – really shows your character and strength…quite striking.
A different and provocative topic, for sure. You done good!
Cheers~
